School Library Journal Review
Gr 3-6 A breezy, pictorial introduction to the Emerald City. Making effective use of maps, sidebars, and glossy pictures of famous landmarks, the author covers history, economics, and the local environment. Facts are correct and information is up-to-date in this extremely positive presentation. Some balance to the rosy picture painted here is provided by mention of traffic problems, though pollution issues and the high cost of living receive no press. Students looking for material for short reports will find this solid introductory fare. Lavish use of color photos enhances the text, and sidebars are useful without being intrusive. An adequate index, glossary, and city map round out the volume. Collections that own Karin Snelson's Seattle (Dillon, 1992) may choose to pass on this slightly more current presentation.
