Ride along with the Time Explorers in their third adventure! The third volume in the Terra Tempo graphic novel series starts off with a big bang as the series' intrepid heroes, Jenna, Caleb, and Ari race from the Cenozoic era to the modern age, making their way through the evolution of mammals. They will finally earn their degrees from the Academy of Planetary Evolution and be considered full-fledged Time Explorers. But when the Bone Wars of the late 1800s threaten to break over to the modern age, and Ari has been taken in for questioning, the kids find themselves in a fight alongside some of history's most notable natural historians, including Herman Melville, Annie Montague Alexander, and Andrew Carnegie. They must race to ensure the safety of the world's history--and its future.

Author Notes

David R. Shapiro is the founder of Craigmore Creations. He has worked as an animal tracker, interpretive guide, youth educator, and summer camp director. He is the author of the web comic series, Around the World with Haley Zoic; several children's picture books; and an illustrated book of sonnets. He lives in Portland, Oregon. Christopher Herndon is an artist, the creator of two comic book series, and the illustrator of numerous album covers, games, and magazines. His previous works include the children's book Tool Time Twist and the graphic novels Blunderbuss Wanderlust and Living with Zombies . He lives in Portland, Oregon.

Gr 3-6-Twins Jenna and Caleb, along with their friend Ari, begin their education at the Academy of Planetary Evolution at the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago. There they meet fellow geology enthusiasts and brainiacs. With a special device known as a "toggler" the students are able to travel to the times and spaces they are learning about to witness science in real time. Several guest lecturers guide them through their units of study including Andrew Carnegie and Herman Melville. Trouble ensues when Seth, leader of the Treasure Hunters and chief villain of the series, tries to recruit a student for his newest endeavor, REDI (Resource and Energy Development, Inc.) He uses his usual tricks to attempt to achieve his goal, but a great symposium with the greatest minds in science is held to settle the ownership of the time travel maps once and for all. This series is getting stronger with each successive installment and is not only action-packed, but focuses on science in a way that is entertaining, informative, and inspires further research in middle grade readers. Back matter includes several maps showing the migration of the earth's tectonic plates, an equine evolution map, and short biographies for the famous faces that appear in the story.
