Author Notes

Temi Adamolekun is from Nigeria, grew up in England, and now lives in San Francisco with her husband and son. Temi runs her own communications agency and is an active and vocal member of her community. She has written essays on topics such as anti-racist parenting and the importance of Black protagonists in children's books. She is an avid reader who has dreamed of writing books for children for a long time, and she is delighted to have made that dream come true.

Keisha Okafor is a Nigerian American illustrator whose work depicts joy and celebrates people. In her personal time, you can find Keisha maintaining her Animal Crossing island or belting her favorite Spice Girls tracks. Keisha captures the vibrancy of everyday moments in her bold, texture-rich designs that celebrate her heritage and community.

To effect change, readers are encouraged to look inwards and listen to the words in their hearts that can become their special voice. This voice can manifest in many ways, from whispering a kind word to a friend to leading a rally; each voice is unique and can inspire others to use their special voices. Adamolekun's effervescent text puts forth the idea that even the youngest child can advocate for positive change, while Okafor's bright, vibrant illustrations reinforce the message by depicting children of varying skin tones, ages, and hair styles. While there is nothing new or groundbreaking to be found here, this is a satisfactory choice for guiding children to become conscious of their passions and implementing change.
