School Library Journal Review
PreS-Gr 1-Little Brown Bear is confused when his parents tell him they're preparing for a "little bundle of joy." Since they are too busy to address his questions, he goes in search of answers. In his travels, he comes across "bundles" that are noisy, sleeping, and messy. Finally, Frog explains what the term means and takes the cub to a park where many families have gathered. Little Bear, who is concerned about the pending addition to his family, now begins to understand the important role a sibling plays in caring for an infant. Relieved and excited, he returns home to discover that his own baby sister has arrived. The text includes subtly humorous phrases, such as Owl saying, "Whooo's there?" and Pig squealing, "Hogwash!" The charming, soft-hued watercolors highlight this affectionate story. With its large illustrations, the tale would work well in storytime or for one-on-one sharing.-Maryann H. The cuddly star of Little Brown Bear Won't Take a Nap! is stumped, at least temporarily, in Little Brown Bear and the Bundle of Joy by Jane Dyer. The ursine heroine consults a number of furry and hoofed creatures to find out just what a "bundle" might be, but it's Frog who reassures her, just in time to prepare for her new sibling.
