Walters follows up Clean Food with this collection of 100 additional recipes just in time for our New Year's resolutions. But if you are looking for a way to stop the holiday eating merry-go-round, this book won't help. It's aimed at foodies for whom eating local is just the tip of the iceberg. Making use of Japanese and macrobiotic ingredients like plum vinegar, kombu, and shoyu (a type of soy sauce), many of these recipes are beyond most American tastes and kitchens. Although this is 95 percent cookbook, with recipes arranged seasonally, Walters also recommends simple methods for modifying food intake by means of charts and tables and describes kitchen and pantry basics. Verdict Despite its reasonable tone, this primarily vegan cookbook does not have wide appeal. It is also not the next best hope for dieters.
