In 2000 Jez created Hug - a powerful book of only three words about a baby chimpanzee called Bobo who loses his Mom. Author Notes

Jez Alborough was born in Kingston upon Thames, Surrey in 1959. After secondary school, Jez went to Art School in Norwich. After college, he spent two years as an editorial illustration freelancer, before he started writing and illustrating his own children's books. In 1984 his first book, Bare Bear, was published and in 1985 Jez was runner-up in The Mother Goose Award for this book. He has now written and illustrated over thirty books for children

Alborough and 500 schoolchildren in London embraced each other for fifteen seconds in a giant "hugathon," raising nearly six thousand dollars for charity and earning a place in the Guinness Book of World Records in celebration of the publication of his book Hug.

PreS-A mother hen keeps a close eye on her young chicks while she sits and waits for the last egg to hatch. She's warned that the "big bad fox" is lurking around the chicken coop and she's torn between keeping her five offspring safe while awaiting her sixth, and children are sure to be concerned that there may be fewer than six little chicks by the end of the story. Told in rhyming couplets, this tale of vigilant neighbors and one particularly innovative hatchling will keep youngsters entertained with its lively repetition and captivating illustrations. The text varies in size and font, creating an exciting story that begs to be read aloud. Brightly colored gouache paintings from small vignettes to full spreads exude energy as the nervous hen and her naive chicks deal with the threat.
