School Library Journal Review
PreS-Gr 2-With Mother's Day approaching, Davy and his siblings decide that, as a gift, their mother would really like her five bunnies to be well behaved. Becoming clean and tidy with good table manners seems a tall order, until big brother Max finds a book called The Well-Raised Bunny. They retreat to their secret den in a hollow tree and practice. When at last they can "cut their moss steaks into small pieces, balance bark chips on their forks, slice mud pies, and use leaf napkins," they send their mother an invitation to a special Mother's Day surprise. Davy appears promptly at noon with a bouquet of bright flowers and escorts her to a table in the woods where Father Rabbit and the others are waiting. Artwork done in soft watercolors and pencil perfectly capture the Rabbit family enjoying the lunch Father Rabbit has prepared on a beautiful spring day. This gentle story features five little bunnies with distinct personalities who willingly give up some dubious behaviors to please their mother.-Mary Jean Smith, formerly at Southside Elementary School, Lebanon, TN (c) Copyright 2014.
