School Library Journal Review
Gr 3-6-The "Graphic History" series introduces young readers to events from history in a graphic novel format, making it particularly appealing to reluctant readers. This title (ABDO, 2008) by Joe Dunn gives simple information about the 1969 moon landing. It introduces the problem of the Cold War, the Soviet Union's success in launching Sputnik, and the United States's resolve to lead in the space race. Readers then learn about NASA and the successful mission of Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins. This interactive book gives users the option of having it read to them or reading it on their own. Each two-page spread of the book is shown. As narration boxes are read by the male narrator at a slow, steady pace, the words and the pictures that accompany them are highlighted. Some words can be clicked for a spoken definition. Some minor sound effects are added. Home, glossary, table of contents, and a review quiz are accessible through the menu. A review quiz at the end of the program tests for comprehension.-Teresa Bateman, Brigadoon Elementary School, Federal Way, WA (c) Copyright 2010.
