Summary:
“We hope you enjoy this kit featuring works by and about AAPI people. AAPI voices is possible thanks to collaboration with the Pullman High School AAPI Student Union. The voices collection is inspired by the work of acclaimed children's literature researcher Rudine Sims Barton, who once said, "Books are windows, offering views of worlds that may be real or imagined, familiar or strange. These windows are also sliding glass doors. Readers have only to walk through in imagination to become part of whatever world has been created. Literature transforms human experience and reflects it back to us, and in that reflection we can see our own lives and experiences as part of the larger human experience.” With the understanding that it is impossible to encompass the entire range of Black experiences, we did our best to select items encompassing a range of viewpoints. It is our hope that some selections reflect your experiences and others lead you to new ones.”
