Publisher's Weekly Review
Webb's frothy fourth Southern Cousins mystery (after 2010's Elvis and the Memphis Mambo Murders) takes Callie Valentine Jones and her irrepressible basset hound, Elvis, from Mooreville, Miss., to Mexico. There they and other family members join cousin Lovie and Lovie's boyfriend, Rocky, who's working at an archeological dig near Cozumel. When Elvis retrieves a human bone from the dig site that's definitely not from an ancient Mayan, Callie's ditzy mother remarks, "Looks like murder's afoot among the ruins." After Lovie and Elvis disappear, Callie, who prefers her occupation as a hairdresser to that of detective, becomes involved in yet another investigation, which becomes even more complicated by the appearance of Jack Jones, her soon to be ex-husband (she hopes!). Zany characters combine with a witty plot in a cozy sure to please series fans and attract new ones. (Oct.) (c) Copyright PWxyz, LLC. All rights reserved.
