My best, best friend

Lola and Lotta are best, best , BESTEST friends who do completely everything together. They always pair up, they look after the tadpoles in the pond, and they especially always swap lunches. But when Evie, a new girl, joins the class, suddenly it's Evie whom Lotta does everything with, even lunch swapping. Lola tells her brother Charlie that she has lost her best friend forever, but Charlie isn't so sure.

The always lively Lola is front-and-center in the latest escapade of the duo made popular by their successful Playhouse Disney show. Charlie and Lola's unique style will charm existing fans and attract new readers to this especially likable series.

Author Notes

Lauren Child (born in 1965 in England) is an English author and illustrator. She is best known for writing the Charlie and Lola books and Clarice Bean novels. Her second book in this series, Clarice Bean Spells Trouble, was shortlisted for the 2005 British Book Awards Children's Book of the Year. A number of spin off books are available based on the scripts of the TV shows, though these were not written or illustrated by Child. Charlie and Lola has been sold throughout the world, and has won many prizes, including BAFTAs in 2007 for Best children's Television Show and Best Script. She writes the Ruby Redfort series. Book six, Blink and You Die, is on the bestseller list.

K-Gr 1-Lola and Lotta are best best friends-until Evie moves to town. Lola feels left out as she watches her friend playing and spending lots of time with the new girl. Not to worry, though. By the end of this saccharine tale, Lola and Lotta are reunited with a little help from Charlie. No real lesson about friendship is clearly defined. This "based upon" book does not maintain the witty charm of Child's original creations. While it may draw fans of the TV series, it remains an additional purchase for most libraries.-Jasmine L.
