Summary
Minerva Louise is back--and this time she's taking her show on the road. The intrepid but airhead hen is off on a joyride in the back of the farm's red truck. And what a lot there is to see! In her usual fashion, she mistakes golfers for farmers digging and a construction site for a playground for trucks. Goofy and lovable as ever, the endearing Minerva Louise--called by Publishers Weekly "unquestionably a star"--leads the way in her newest adventure--on wheels.

School Library Journal Review
PreS-K-Once again, Minerva Louise is carried away with her naive thinking, her silly assumptions, and her zest for life. This time the exuberant hen travels beyond the farm's boundaries in the red farm truck. From the "farmers, hard at work in the fields" (golfers) to "baby trucks playing in the sand" (construction site), she is excited by all she sees in the wide world. There is even a truck with a slide (cement truck) and a giant swing (crane). She decides this is truly "a wonderful place." Nevertheless, she knows that nothing beats home and the red farm truck- unless it's the big red fire truck zooming down the road. Minerva Louise is as irrepressible as ever. Even though readers know what to expect from this less-than-brilliant chicken, this new story is as lively as the earlier ones. As always children will love being a step ahead of her creative thinking. The illustrations, which let the children in on the truth of the hen's assumptions, retain the same simple, coloring-book style of art. The clarity of the pictures and the limited text make this an excellent choice for beginning readers. Stoeke has successfully taken her charming chicken on yet another fun adventure.-Carolyn Janssen, Children's Learning Center of the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County, OH (c) Copyright 2010. Publisher's Weekly Review
Favorite characters enjoy all-new adventures in a handful of companion books. The hapless hen returns in her sixth title, Minerva Louise and the Red Truck by Janet Morgan Stoeke, in which she unwittingly mistakes golfers for farmers at work in the field and a construction site for a playground. "I love to slide," she says when she sees a cement truck unloading. (Sept.) (c) Copyright PWxyz, LLC. All rights reserved
