The producers of Food Matters present a study of why dieting doesn't work, citing the food industry's use of dangerous and addictive additives in its products, the necessity of eating unrefined foods rather than manufactured ones, the use of juicing for cleansing and to concentrate nutrients, and self-love and visualization as key mental aspects of a weight-loss/health regime. Along with interviews with nutritionists and people who have achieved weight loss and regained health using these techniques, the film intersperses dramatized vignettes of a young woman who turns her life around via these methods. The film makes a number of very telling points, but it hypes juicing, for example, without informing the viewer how to go about it. Presumably, details appear in the companion book of the same name (HarperOne. 2012. ISBN 9780062220845), which was not seen by this reviewer. -VERDICT This well-done video will pique viewers' interest, but without providing much direction on its own, it will have limited appeal.-Susan B.
