Charlotte Dolinsky and her brother Ethan grew up in foster care with guardians who treated them brutally. When they age out of the system, Ethan moves to an Amish village where he subsequently commits suicide. A devastated Charlotte visits the town to find out why. Disguised as an Amish cousin named Mary, Charlotte befriends the family of the woman whom Ethan was dating. Expecting to find a stern religious cult, Charlotte not only discovers friendship and love but develops respect for the Amish way of life and a seed of faith in God. -VERDICT Unlike her previous Amish series "The Daughters of Promise," Wiseman's new launch is edgier, taking on the tough issues of mental illness and suicide. Amish fiction fans seeking something a bit more thought provoking and challenging than the usual fare will find this series debut a solid choice. © Copyright 2015.
